DOMA is a solo dance piece that reflects on the trauma generated in women by heteropatriarchal society and rape culture. Through inhabiting the tension between the grotesque and the sexualized, the piece questions and challenges the powers exerted over the female body.
The work unfolds through dance, performative actions, and symbolic imagery that construct a visual iconography: apples, high heels, a naked woman, sweeping, a garbage bin.
*About the title: “DOMA” is the Spanish word for both “Taming” and “Dressage”. The title evokes the dual meaning of doma: the act of taming — an imposition of control and discipline — and the aestheticized training of dressage, where the body performs obedience as elegance. DOMA reclaims these ideas from a feminist and autobiographical perspective, exposing how female bodies have been shaped, disciplined, and sexualized, while transforming that process into a gesture of rebellion and resistance.
