Andrea El Ameri
─── About
Andrea El Ameri is a choreographer, dancer, and educator with Moroccan and Spanish roots, based in Barcelona. Her practice falls within the realm of live arts, where she investigates the body, rhythm, action, and image as languages to interrogate ways of being and relating to the world.
Her work engages with critical thinking and stage creation, and her practice brings together influences from contemporary dance, urban dances—especially popping and waacking—and various Afro-Caribbean and Latin dances, which intertwine in a constantly transforming bodily exploration.
In 2023, she premiered DOMA, an exploration of the sexual and the grotesque in the female body conceived as a gesture of resistance and affirmation, supported by the Fábrica de Creación El Graner and programmed in spaces such as the Festival de Otoño de Madrid and the Mercat de les Flors.
She is currently developing Dislocadas: una fiesta móvil, a project in residency at La Caldera and selected for the Barcelona Crea 2024 grants, where she continues her research on live arts as a meeting ground between body, thought, and creation.
In parallel, she is expanding her artistic training through the UOC Arts Degree and has participated in research spaces such as the Salmon Festival 2023 study group and the Spring Meeting of the Performance Art Forum (PAF) in France.
As a performer, she has collaborated on internationally relevant projects and productions with creators and companies such as Poliana Lima, WAN with You Are Not a Ghost (Ulm/Barcelona), Inka Romani (Valencia–Hamburg), Claudia Pagés with Five Towers of Defense (Barcelona/London, 2025; Tunis Biennale 2025), Los Informals (Barcelona–Cagliari), CÍA MUES (Switzerland, 2024), and City Horses by Byström Källblad (Sweden/Barcelona, 2022).
Since 2013, she has taught classes and workshops at various schools and spaces across the Iberian Peninsula and is co-organizer of OPEN STAGE OPEN SPACE, an event with over eight editions dedicated to improvisation, community, and experimentation in dance.
